As the latest version of AR500 Armor’s polyethylene Level III plate, the P2 plate is even thinner than the previous. Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) plates are constructed of high density polyethylene with outstanding anti-ballistic properties in a lightweight package. This 9.5″ x 12.5″ AR500 Armor® Level III Polyethylene Body Armor weighs only 3.3 lbs. It’s also neutrally buoyant and multi-hit capable from rifle threats up 5.56×45 M193 at 3150 FPS and 7.62×39 AK-47 at 2380 FPS feet per second and all lesser rifle, pistol, and shotgun threats. It is not however capable of stopping MSC/EP rounds such as M855, but it can take multiple hits from lesser rounds and will not shatter like ceramic plates. The plate is sprayed with a FragLock™ coating to seal it from the elements.
The latest AR500 Polyethylene (PE) plates feature a thin profile that is only 1.0” thick. They can be used in a carrier for both front and back protection, but please note that not all carriers will fit PE plates. With AR500 products, this plate will fit the Testudo, Invictus, and Valkyrie Carriers. While PE plates are quite a bit thicker than steel plates, the benefit of significantly reduced weight makes them at attractive option for rifle threat protection. Before your final purchase, you’ll also want to decide if you’d like to add a trauma pad for your plate. Trauma pads are constructed of a non-Newtonian material and are designed for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of blunt force energy felt by the armor user. They offer no additional ballistic protection and add about 5.9 oz and .25″ in thickness to your plate carrier.
