American Blast Systems 1.6 lbs UHMWPE Lightweight ICW Speed Plate- NIJ Level III Rifle Threat Protection

American Blast Systems has created the lightest Level III plate in the industry!  Constructed of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), the plate is only .5 inches thick and weighs only 1.6 lbs (based on the standard 10″ x 12″ single curve plate).  This particular plate is an ICW or “In Conjunction With” plate which means that its NIJ Level III rating is achieved in conjunction with Level IIIA soft armor.  The combination of an approved Level IIIA vest with the Level III ICW Speed Plate on top, is rated to stop up to 7.62×51 mm rounds and all lesser threats.  Such a set-up is a perfect solution for police, security, and military personnel who already regularly wear Level IIIA soft armor.   When extra protection is desired, a plate carrier with ICW plates can quickly be put on without adding unnecessary weight or without removing the soft armor.  If you prefer, American Blast systems also makes a lightweight Level III solution without needing to wear it with soft armor.  Check out American Blast System’s Level III “Stand Alone” 2.6 lbs plate HERE.

Each Level III ICW plate is manufactured in the USA and comes standard in a black Cordura protective covering.  If you’d like to upgrade to a Line-X protective coating, the option can be added for $50.  The Line-X coating adds a little more weight, but further reduces spalling in a situation where the plate is struck by rounds.  Customers also have the option to choose between a Single Curve or Double Curve profile and between a SAPI or Shooter Cut design at no extra cost.  The Double Curve or “Multi-curve” profile is curved both horizontally and vertically.  Depending on the user’s chest shape, they may find one option is more ergonomic and comfortable.  The SAPI cut design is the military standard “Small Arms Protective Insert” cut which has the top corners cut away for increased mobility.  The Shooter Cut design has an even more aggressive angled cut on the top corners and slight corner cuts on the bottom which offers less torso coverage, but increases flexibility range for the user to do activities like shoulder a long gun.  The Shooter Cut also slightly reduces the overall weight of the plate.
