American Blast Systems manufactures the lightest Level III plates in the industry!  Constructed of Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE), the Stand Alone Side Plate is only .5 inches thick and weighs only .8 lbs (weight varies slightly depending on size chosen).  This particular plate is a “Stand Alone” plate which means that it meets NIJ Level III standards when used alone as opposed to the ICW or “In Conjunction With” plates that achieve Level III protection when used with Level IIIA soft armor.  This plate is rated to stop 7.62×51 mm rounds and all lesser threats.  If you prefer the ICW Side Plate that is used with Level IIIA soft armor, the link to purchase can be found HERE.

Each Level III Stand Alone Side plate is manufactured in the USA and comes standard in a black Cordura protective covering.  If you’d like to upgrade to a Line-X protective coating, the option can be added for $50.  The Line-X coating adds a little more weight, but further reduces spalling in a situation where the plate is struck by rounds.

The polyethylene Stand Alone Side Plate fits most standard carrier side pouches and is available in 5″ x 8″, 6″ x 6″, and 6″ x 8″ sizes.  This plate comes with a 15 year warranty.
