AR500 Armor Level III Body Armor plates provide stand-alone and multi-hit protection from rifle threats up to 7.62×51 M80 Ball (.308 Winchester) at velocities up to 2,780 feet per second and all lesser rifle, pistol, and shotgun threats. The 8″ x 10″ plat is compatible with all standard plate carriers that accept SAPI or traditional Shooters Cut body armor with the appropriate chest plate pocket size. The ASC design is tapered at the top to permit the arms to move freely in handgun and rifle tactical response. Customers have the option of buying a standard flat plate or upgrading to a more ergonomic curved plate that hugs the body for a reduced profile. The curved design also has an asymmetrical cut on the right shoulder which allows for more room to position a rifle stock. The plate ships in a right handed configuration so please specify at the time of order if you require a left handed version. This plate is designed to be used as a front or back plate and is 100% constructed in the USA.
AR500 Armor uses a ballistic grade steel core that’s maintenance free and only .26″ thick. Standard plates come pretreated with a PAXCON (Line-X) coating which increases the plate’s ability to protect against ammunition spall and fragmentation. The treated steel core is stress fracture resistant, giving it an extreme advantage over ceramic, Dyneema, UHMWPE, and other armor that can fail if dropped or exposed to impacts. The protective coating also provides a fully sealed design that’s impervious to liquids, chemicals, and harsh elements. Customers also have the option of upgrading to a PAXON (Line-X Build Up) coating. The Build Up coating further reduces spall and fragmentation by absorbing more of the bullet material into the outer shell of the plate, instead of deflecting it. A standard plate weighs only 5.5 lbs. The Build Up coating adds another 1/3 lb and up to a total thickness of .48″. Please note that because of demand, choosing a Build Up coating can add up to several more weeks of expected delivery time for your order.
Before your final purchase, you’ll also want to decide if you’d like to add a trauma pad for your plate. Trauma pads are constructed of a non-Newtonian material and are designed for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of blunt force energy felt by the armor user. They offer no additional ballistic protection and add about 5.5 oz and .25″ in thickness to your plate carrier.
Finally, before purchase you’ll also have the option of a left or right handed plate. The Advanced Shooter’s Cut is slightly deeper on one side or the other, depending on which hand you use for shooting. This type of design allows for more flexibility in the arms, especially when shouldering a long gun.
