AR500 Armor Level III Body Armor plates provide stand-alone and multi-hit protection from rifle threats up to 7.62×51 M80 Ball (.308 Winchester) at velocities up to 2,780 feet per second and all lesser rifle, pistol, and shotgun threats. The 6″ x 8″ armor plate fits in carriers with side plate pockets that accept 6″ x 6″, 6″ x 8″, and 8″ x 8″ plates. The 6″ x 8″ plate is designed to be oriented with the longer side vertical in the pocket. AR500’s side plates are thinner than ceramic plates of the same protection rating at only .26″ thick and 3.5 lb. Customers have the option of buying a standard flat plate or upgrading to a more ergonomic curved plate that hugs the body for a reduced profile. This plate is designed to be used as a front or back plate and is 100% constructed in the USA.
AR500 Armor plates come pretreated with a PAXCON (Line-X) coating which increases the plate’s ability to protect against ammunition spall and fragmentation. The treated steel core is stress fracture resistant, giving it an extreme advantage over ceramic, Dyneema, UHMWPE, and other armor that can fail if dropped or exposed to impacts. The protective coating also provides a fully sealed design that’s impervious to liquids, chemicals, and harsh elements. Customers also have the option of upgrading to a PAXON (Line-X Build Up) coating. The Build Up coating further reduces spall and fragmentation by absorbing more of the bullet material into the outer shell of the plate, instead of deflecting it. The Build Up coating adds only a fraction more to the entire weight and thickness of each plate. Please note that because of demand, choosing a Build Up coating can add up to several more weeks of expected delivery time for your order.
Before your final purchase, you’ll also want to decide if you’d like to add a trauma pad for your plate. Trauma pads are constructed of a non-Newtonian material and are designed for the sole purpose of reducing the amount of blunt force energy felt by the armor user. They offer no additional ballistic protection and add about .25″ in thickness to your plate carrier.
